In Memoriam: Legendary Leonard Engleman

Leonard Engelman

MAY 9, 1941 – AUGUST 1, 2024

Our sincere condolences to family and friends of iconic make-up artist Leonard Engelman, who passed away Thursday, August 1, 2024.

From the beauty of Cher in Moonstruck and Burlesque, to Michelle Pfeiffer in The Witches of Eastwick, Meg Ryan in Sleepless in Seattle, Julianne Moore in Roommates and Julie Andrews in The Princess Diaries to the bruised and battered Val Kilmer in Heat and Batman Forever, Chris O’Donnell in Batman & Robin, and Sylvester Stallone in both Rambo and Rocky IV, Mr. Engelmann’s talent was legendary. He was nominated for two Emmy Awards and won three Make-Up Artists & Hair Stylists Guild Awards. In 2017, he was honored with the MUAHS Guild’s Lifetime Achievement Award for Make-up.

His broad range of skills made Leonard Engelman a leader, not only as a filmmaker but as a mentor and teacher for the next generations. He served as a Local 706 Business Representative, Executive Board member and educator. Engelman’s involvement with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is unprecedented and helped form the Makeup and Hairstyling Branch. He has served as Vice President and as a Governor of the Makeup Artists and Hairstylists Branch (1st Governor).

Funeral services will be private. Please respect the wishes of the family.
